Mysterious Sea Creature Washes Up on Beach in Australia

A weird sea creature was spotted by someone walking on a beach in Australia and locals are amazed at the animal’s bizarre appearance.
On Friday, Cosy Seaside Escape shared photos of the mysterious creature on Facebook, which showed the animal                                                                                                                                             “sunbaking” on the sand. The strange picture, which was taken at Golden Beach in Victoria’s Gippsland region, shows a catshark, a species of shark that is typically found on the ocean floor and eats small fish, Fox News reported. Even though these creatures have odd features, they’re not a threat to humans.
On Facebook, many people commented on the catshark’s features and thought it was cool to have the opportunity to see this animal, which doesn’t really come out of shallow areas, up close.
“That is incredible—nature at its best,” one commenter wrote.
However, there were some concerns over why this catshark showed up on the shore in the first place.
“I’m not sure if this is a good thing.. someone else spotted another one of these beached only a couple of weeks ago,” someone wrote below the post. “What’s going on in the deep sea that they are surfacing?”
“Look like it’s been beached,” another added.

Some catsharks also have the ability to glow in the dark to send messages to other catsharks: According to research published in Scientific Reports, two species of shark, the chain catshark and the swell catshark, can absorb the ocean’s blue light and re-emit it at less intense energy wavelengths, which cause the catsharks to take on a bright green color.
According to PBS, catsharks are found in warmer seas worldwide and they’re the most common type of shark in many tropical regions. They’re typically small in size and only grow up to 2.5 feet or less. Catsharks have elongated eyes that give them a feline-like look and they have from 40 to over 110 rows of teeth.
