Marvel Leak Reveals This Will Be The Villain In ‘Captain Marvel 2’

After a successful standalone film that made over a billion dollars at the box office and an appearance in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s decision to move forward on a sequel to Captain Marvel was a no brainer. The studio has not released any details about Brie Larson’s return as the eponymous hero, though a leak might reveal who Captain Marvel will be fighting next.

A user on Reddit claims to have inside information regarding the new villain in the Captain Marvel sequel. The new big bad is expected to play a larger role in Phase 4 of the MCU, which goes well beyond the confines of one movie. It is admittedly difficult to verify the leak, but the user claims that the source is someone who works in the industry.

Even if that is true, fans should be cautious about the news until Marvel confirms or denies it. With the movie not expected to come out until 2021 at the earliest, it might be a while before we get any information from the studio.

Precautions aside, the source claims that the new villain is cosmic in scale. According to We Got This Covered, the next phase of the MCU will feature an Earth-based villain to start before expanding to a bigger one. The first villain is expected to be Norman Osborn, who will be introduced in a different movie.

The cosmic bad guy, on the other hand, will be brought to life in the next Captain Marvel movie. The source claims that the villain is Michael Korvac, who will pose a serious threat to Larson’s character.

Michael Korvac has a long and complicated history in the comics. The character is half-human and half-supercomputer who has god-like powers. This includes the ability to absorb power and manipulate matter at a whim. The majority of Korvac’s strength comes from The Power Cosmic, which he will undoubtedly use against Captain Marvel.
In the comics, Korvac has a history with both Galactus and the Badoon, though it is unclear if his origins will be simplified for the big screens.

Some sources claim that we will be first be introduced to Korvac at a time when he does not have his full powers. As the story goes, Captain Marvel discovers that the Kree have been manipulating Korvac to their advantage, much like they did with her. The two bond over their shared experience before Korvac betrays her.

Once he learns how to harness The Power Cosmic, Korvac travels to Earth with the goal of making it into his version of a utopia. Korvac’s storyline will then span multiple films as he morphs into the main villain for Phase 4. It is important to note that marvel has not confirmed any of these details and it is entirely possible that the studio has different plans in mind.

What about Osborn?

As far as Osborn is concerned, he is expected to make an appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home. But with Jake Gyllenhaal playing the main villain in the movie, Mysterio, it is unclear how much Osborn will be featured in the flick. It is entirely possible that Osborn pops up at the very end and is used as a way to jump into the next phase. After all, the upcoming Spider-Man movie is technically supposed to be a part of Phase 3.

Osborn, of course, has already played a role in two films in the Spider-Man universe. This time around, Marvel boss Kevin Feige is expected to go in a new direction with the villain.

This might include giving fans more backstory on Osborn before he turns into the Green Goblin. If they do this, it would open the door to bring in the Dark Avengers and the Dark Reign storyline, which would be interesting to watch unfold.

Spider-Man: Far from Home is scheduled to open in theaters on July 2. As far as the rest of the movies in the MCU are concerned, Marvel is expected to make some announcements later this year, including a premiere date for Captain Marvel 2.
